About us

Sheila and Jacqui would like to welcome you all to The Spotted Sheep in Ramsbottom!

We are an independent yarn shop selling yarns for all projects and pockets, after all we all know that which yarn you choose depends on what you are making and who it’s for – that’s why we have wools and yarns from £1.99 – £39.99 per ball, so you’re sure to find lots of options.

If you are looking for a fun, friendly, up to date yarn shop where you are greeted with a smile and makes you feel as though you have popped into a friend’s home, then this is the place for you.

Like you, we are completely passionate about wools and yarns and the myriad of projects that knitters, crocheters and crafters turn it into. We have wools and yarns for all projects from yarn bombing to beautiful designer projects and everything in between, in a vast array of colours, weights and composition and textures for all things wools and wonderful!

In the shop, you will find oodles and oodles of samples to inspire you, from knitted teddies, gloves, wraps, shawls, cardigans, sweaters, Crocheted reindeer heads, blankets and much much more.

We always have lots of events going on and you can find out more on our News & Events pages.

Did you know that we were the 1st stockists in the world to have the gorgeous Cashmere Lace and Gilli (dk) range by Louisa Harding! Louisa visited the shop in Leighton Buzzard a number of times, so we may be able to arrange a visit to Ramsbottom. Watch out also for dates of other designers coming to the shop, as Erika Knight! was also a regular guest.

We would love to meet you, so pop in to see us, browsing and mooching are actively encouraged and feel free to try on any samples.

You can find us on Bolton Road West, just after the junction with Nuttall Lane, and next door to the Holcombe Tap.

The shop is officially open Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 9.30am – 4.30pm initially.

Meet the team

Jacqui

Hi, I’m Jacqui, the owner of The Spotted Sheep.

As a long time knitter and more recently, crocheter, I have always been passionate about wools and yarns – every weight from laceweight to superchunky – you name it and I’ll knit it!

This passion grew from a craft room at home into the shop – after all there is no stash too big (even though we now run at about 50,000 balls of yarn in stock at times!)

Those of you that come into the shop or see us ‘On the road’ at Fibre East and other events, will know that we are an excitable bunch, fun and chatty.

We have a ‘no selling’ policy because we hate being sold to! Instead, we like to  look at, touch and squidge yarns and when we are excited that we have found what we are happy with, then we buy it. We want all of our customers to be the same, to be happy and excited with their next project and yarns, and to be  so excited that they can’t wait to get home to start!

In the shop and increasingly online, you will find lots of projects designed by us. I am constantly coming up with 1 & 2 ball projects especially, because we all love them! So you will find mitts, cowls, shawls, wraps, cardigans and also toys, the occasional bag and anything else that pops into our minds, made from yarns from many different parts of the world.

I believe that shops should be staffed by people that are knowledgeable about their products, somewhere you can get help and advice from a friendly human being, a real shop where you are always welcomed and feel comfortable. We have so many lovely, happy, returning customers and look forward to you joining our ‘flock’!

Sheila

Hi, I’m Sheila, Manager at The Spotted Sheep.

I moved to Leighton Buzzard in 2015 to set up and open the shop there with my sister, Jacqui.

Six years and a pandemic later, and after missing my 2 daughters, son-in-law and 2 grandchildren who still lived ‘Up north’ I decided to move back, and chose Ramsbottom to be my new home for the shop.

Whilst in Leighton Buzzard I met so many lovely people and made many new friends visiting the shop and I loved to hear about their crafty successes and seeing photos of what they have turned the balls of yarn into!   I am absolutely sure that I will have the same experience in Ramsbottom as I have already been greeted by friendly and enthusiastic people.  Looking forward to seeing many more friendly faces in the Ramsbottom shop.

So.......which brands do we stock?

Even with around 50,000 balls of wool and yarn in stock at any one time ?, we still can’t stock every yarn and colour from each stockist and range ?

However……..here is the current list of stockists that can be found in the shop ?
