Katia

Katia Varanasi

Varanasi is a blend of gorgeously complementary colours

that creates a variegated deliciously soft dk weight yarn that is perfect not just for shawls but also garments,

accessories and blankets. Having just worked with this yarn, I can personally recommend it as it knitted and washed really well and produces a light but warm finished project.

Each Ball comes with a FREE knitted shawl pattern

that needs just 1 ball – oh I do love a ‘Shawl in a Ball’ kit that is perfect as a gift or a little fill in project!

But, those of you that know us, will not be surprised that we wanted to create another wrap in this yarn, so we now have

The Varanasi Wrap

In the photos section you will see lots of photos and suggestions on how to wear your wrap in different ways, depending on what you put it with, this could be over a sweater, a crisp white shirt or a t-shirt.  The wrap in this photograph has been made using Colour 305, which is labelled by Katia as Lilac-Night blue-Turquoise blue!

Again, this is a 1 ball knitting project that is knitted back and forth, it makes a perfect kit, just choose your yarn colour, add the pattern to your basket – this can be purchased as an Instant Downloadable PDF or as a printed pattern to be posted out. Then just get out your needles and you’re off!

To make the wrap you will need a  5.00mm circular needle 80cm or longer and the only skills you need to have are cast on, knit, purl, cast off, there are some other skills but they are clearly explained in the instructions to make sure you will find them easy – suitable for advanced beginner or intermediate knitters. An excellent pattern for progressing your knitting skills in a chilled way as every pattern row is written out row by row to ensure success.

if you would like to crochet a shawl instead then the Elemental Crochet Wrap pattern would be perfect!

Each 150g ball has 480m / 525 yds that consists of 52% wool & 48% acrylic.

The Suggested Tension is 21sts & 28rows on 4.00mm over 10cm / 4”

For knitting – needle size 3.5 – 4.00mm (5 – 6 US) needles according to tension and for crocheting – hook size 4.00 – 4.5mm (G6 – 7 US) hook

Machine washable at up to 30 degrees

However, we would recommend using this yarn as a Worsted or Aran weight, as it knits beautifully on 5mm needles!  We know this because Jacqui has just designed a knitted shawl which uses 1 ball, and she loved it.
