This latest sock yarn / 4 Ply from Rico is fabulous.  Each 100g ball has 420 metres and is a mixture of 50% Wool, 25% Polyamide and 25% Viscose (Bamboo).  This gives the yarn softness and durability, yet still retains the warmth due to the wool content.  It is machine washable at 40° but is not suitable for tumble drying.  It can be used as a standard 4 ply yarn as well as sock wool, especially as the colour variegations work so well together.  On the label, it states that it is suitable for knitting and crocheting socks on 2-3mm needles and hooks, although if you are making a garment or shawl, you can increase the size you are using, to 3.25mm for garments and to about 6mm if you are making a shawl.
